The Moduli Space Metric for Well - separated BPS Monopoles
The Lagrangian for the motion of n well-separated BPS monopoles is calculated, by treating the monopoles as point particles with magnetic, electric and scalar charges. It can be reinterpreted as the Lagrangian for geodesic motion on the asymptotic region of the n-monopole moduli space, thereby determining the asymptotic metric on the moduli space. The metric is hyperkähler, and is an explicit e...
متن کاملNon-Abelian vortices and non-Abelian statistics.
We study the interactions of non-abelian vortices in two spatial dimensions. These interactions have novel features, because the Aharonov-Bohm effect enables a pair of vortices to exchange quantum numbers. The cross section for vortex-vortex scattering is typically a multi-valued function of the scattering angle. There can be an exchange contribution to the vortex-vortex scattering amplitude th...
متن کاملWavefunctions for Non-Abelian Vortices
We construct exact wavefunctions of two vortices on a plane, a single vortex on the cylinder and a vortex on the torus. In each case, the physics is shown to be equivalent to a particle moving in a covering space, something simple to solve in those examples. We describe how our solutions fit into the general theory of quantum mechanics of N particles on a two-dimensional space and attribute our...
متن کاملExact Moduli Space Metrics for Hyperbolic Vortices
Exact metrics on some totally geodesic submanifolds of the moduli space of static hyperbolic N -vortices are derived. These submanifolds, denoted Σn,m, are spaces of Cn-invariant vortex configurations with n single vortices at the vertices of a regular polygon and m = N − n coincident vortices at the polygon’s centre. The geometric properties of Σn,m are investigated, and it is found that Σn,n−...
متن کاملDyonic Non-Abelian Vortices
We study three-dimensional Yang-Mills-Higgs theories with and without a Chern-Simons interaction. We find that these theories admit a rich spectrum of vortex solitons carrying both a topological charge and a global flavour charge. We further derive a low-energy description of the vortex dynamics from a gauged linear sigma model on the vortex worldline.
